2019 Santa Cruz Mountains AVA Pinot Noir
This Pinot Noir is a blend from many small vineyards that we farm around the Santa Cruz Mountains. These small vineyards are all grown among the redwoods, are all influenced by the cool Monterey Bay and are all planted on various types of decomposed sandstone. All of these vineyards showcase a uniqueness and a depth in the wines that they produce. From year to year, this blend of Pinot Noir may differ in its exact vineyard source but it will always be a true Madson expression of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Depending on the vintage this wine will be 70% to 100% whole cluster fermented, the fermentation always begins carbonic and we taste the fermentation to assess the maceration and extraction. This Pinot Noir is a glimpse into the cool coastal terroir of the Santa Cruz Mountains.
TASTING NOTES
Earthy, savory, raspberry bramble, black cherry, and citrus are a few of many descriptors for this wine. This wine has immense depth and richness in the middle palate while the finish has chalky minerality and delicate tannin. Enjoy now or cellar for 5-10 years.
